Cecil Andrew George Kilmurray
Born: 1906
Married: May Wade 1932
Cecil and May left Kyogle with their 3 children, Zelma, Melvyn and Royce and Trixie the dog just after the last really big flood in 1954. They initially went to a shop owned by Alf and Belle Wade (May’s brother and sister-in-law) at Albert Road, Croydon park.
From there they progressed to their own business, a shop rented at 12 Myers Street, Sans Souci. They later moved to another shop which is still standing today on the corner of Daphne Street and Botany Road at Botany.
They then took out a loan, and Cecil worked part time in the shop and at night at Floodvales Wool Wash at Botany, later selling the shop, and purchasing a “better” business at 233 Birrell Street Bondi. This was serviced accomodation, which was really good for a time, but there were changes in the LANDLORD & TENNANT ACT which May had trouble dealing with. Cecil meanwhile kept his job at Floodvales until the business closed down.
Shortly before this happened their only daughter met David Robertson and they eventually married in 1960. Cecil changed jobs and gained employment with Envelope Manufacturers at Alexandria, then nine years later the Robertson family consisting of David, Zelma, Karen and Joanne moved to Matraville
On the day that the youngest Robertson daughter Leeonie was born (17.7.71) May and Cecil packed up and headed for new fields at Minnamurra. Some years later they sold up and moved back to Sydney to be closer to their family, moving to 43 Holmes Street Kingsford their final home.
